Finding Light in the "Wobble"
Last year, I met a new friend, Kim, and listened to her story about living with Parkinson’s at the age of 37. Kim was born with a heart for caring; she always put others first, which is exactly why she became a nurse. But for someone so used to giving care, she found it incredibly difficult to receive it herself. She told me how she felt life had become meaningless after the illness, and she faced so many challenges, both physically and mentally.
As I listened, my heart broke. Everything she endured, and yet how she fought her way through—even in her darkest times—moved me deeply. I felt a deep pull to capture her spirit as a person finding a way forward through the most “wobbly” moments of life. Kim explained how hopeless it felt in those dark moments, and I realized that others still in that darkness might need this story too. We all need a reminder that healing is possible and that hope is real.
I asked her then: "If you want, I can paint your story." I wanted to bring some light to those who are in need. To be honest, I didn't even know why I said it. I have never illustrated or published a book before. I think I was just moved so much that it became my motivation.
So, I am now in the process of illustrating a 65-page storybook dedicated to her legacy. It is a project fueled by love, resilience, and the belief that even when our dreams are stolen, we can still create something new and beautiful from the pieces.
Illustrating a book is a brand-new experience for me. If you’d like to follow along and hear updates as this storybook comes to life, please subscribe to my newsletter above.
